Artist Statement
Anke considers herself a storyteller, filling her paintings with rich and vibrant colors, varied depths and striking lines. Her abstract, impressionistic paintings integrate the chaos, connection and close proximity absorbed from her travels around the world and her European roots. In her lifelong pursuit of aesthetic beauty, also evident in her Interior Design work, she has dedicated many years to
shaping her artistic expressions.
"In my paintings I consider the relationship between abstraction and representation, exploring a fusion of both element. The content is at once organized and chaotic, digitized and organic.Bold colors meet delicate hues within a picture plane that refuses definite identification."
"I'll let my intuition guide the brush, using a blend of abstraction and realistic photographic element, attempting both a mental and physical environment, Form, function, design and image must work together seamlessly.
In trying to find a narrative in my work I find this to be a fascinating subject that offers endless complexities."
" Sometimes I use collage and remnants of older paintings, canvas overlay and surface marks that are rather suggestive than explained."
"For me, paintings is an experience in liberation. Even when I am not painting my creative spirit wanders. Back at the studio the process intertwines the camera's eye with the alchemy of the different materials used on the canvas."
" I want my work to reflect a moment in time, to tell a story, to give pause for contemplation."
Anke's work can be found in many private and corporate collections in the US, Europe and China.
